DeepSeek V4.1 Flash is a sparse mixture-of-experts model from DeepSeek, and the first built on the company's Causal Encoder-Decoder (CED) architecture. It activates 8B parameters on input and 16B on output. It became available in September 2026.
It accepts text and image input and produces text, so you can show it a screenshot or diagram. It has a very large context window and can produce very long responses; the stats above show the current limits. It supports reasoning with an effort setting, tool calling, and structured outputs. With tool calling, the free-pi agent can read and edit files, run commands, and use free-pi's built-in web search and documentation lookup tools.
In free-pi it is free to use with no API key and no card. It counts as about 0.1x usage, which means it uses your daily allowance quickly, much faster than the default model.
When to pick it
For work that involves images, pick DeepSeek V4.1 Flash; the default DeepSeek V4 Flash takes text only. Its very long output limit also suits tasks that produce a lot of text at once. Expect your allowance to go quickly: at about 0.1x it lasts roughly a tenth as long as it does on the default.
For long sessions, pick the default DeepSeek V4 Flash. For the hardest problems, pick a premium model such as Claude Sonnet 5.5.
